The Alpather Lake lies at the foot of 4,511-meter twin peaks of the Apharwat. It is a triangular shaped Lake and features a backdrop of snow covered mountains, breathtaking to say the least. A cool breeze gently caresses your face as you stand near the lake, which remains frozen until mid-June. Post-June, small flecks of ice with clear blue water are seen floating on the surface of the lake. The steep slope reaching to this lake can be trekked by hiking lovers all the way via Khilanmarg. You can always count on a horse ride, easily available from Gulmarg market. Summers months (May-Sept) are the best time to visit the Alpather Lake when you can see the otherwise frozen water, bubbling through the Lake. The romance and love that environs this Lake forms perfect location for various Indian movie shoots. In the spring season, you may get a whiff of colorful flowers coming right from the Kilanmarg Valley. A visit to the Alpather Lake is thus highly recommended!
