Rani Temple

Located in the heart of Gulmarg town, the Rani Temple is one of the last remnants of the Dogra Dynasty which once ruled the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. The temple was built by Maharaja Hari Singh and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. His wife Maharani Mohini Bai Sisodhia used to perform prayers every day here, the temple is, therefore, named after her. What is most interesting about the Rani Temple is the fact that it is visible from every corner of Gulmarg! The temple opens every day from 6 AM to 9 PM for visitors. Upon entering the temple, you see a humble priest, Gulham Mohammad Sheikh, performing aarti and distributing prasadam to the devotees. With deep devotion, he chants verses of Quran (holy book of Muslims) and shlokas from the Gita (holy book of Hindus). This Shiva temple looks extraordinarily pretty during snowfall. Cleanliness and management are commendable. You get a 360-degree view of the entire valley in all its glory from the top of the temple. Lush green meadows surround this holy place during summers while there is thick ice during winters. Seventy steps to a spiritual and heavenly experience, do not forget to visit this temple!
