Pari Mahal


Pari Mahal means “The Adobe of Fairies”. This splendid Mughal Garden is a seven terraced garden. It is also known as “Quntilon”. The garden is a specimen of fine Mughal garden architecture. Large groves of fruit trees and flowering plants are present in the garden. The garden is in full bloom during the months of spring. The vibrant flowers accentuate the beauty of the garden. The lush green landscapes and the beautiful flowers present an amazing sight. This fabulous garden was built on the instructions of Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Shah Jahan. The Pari Mahal served as the venue where Dara Shikoh learned astrology and astronomy. The garden is 122 meter long and 62.5 meter wide. The uppermost terrace of the garden was used for the learning purpose of Dara Shikoh. The entry of the garden has a typical Mughal style arch with a dome. A row of rooms follows on the both sides of the entrance. The upper and lowers terraces of each floor are easily reachable. From the top of the garden you can have panoramic views of the surrounding area. While visiting Srinagar, make sure you add a visit to this stunning garden on the top of your to-do-list.
